Heart Transformation from a Group Leaders Prospective

  1. Why Heart Transformation - to help encourage people to discover a passionate love for God
    • Nothing really changes unless the heart changes (people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me)
    • We are living a numbed down, dumbed down spiritual experience from what the Lord identified
    • We are chained to sin (wrong desires), we are not free (Rom. 6)
    • We are not overflowing with hope, joy, love, power and thanksgiving
    • We are not doing the things than Jesus did (Jn 14:12)
    • Because the "body" is not focused on building the Kingdom
    • Because we are weak in faith
  2. What is a Transformed Heart
    • Loving with "all" our heart (Luke 10:27)
    • Trusting Him fully: His plan and in His promises
    • Desiring/experiencing His continual presence
    • Being "full" of Spirit of God (not drunk w/wine but full)
    • Experiencing the abundant life (Jn 10:10b) and rec. 100x's as much in this present age & in the age to come (Mk 10:30)
    • Learning the partnership experience between us and God
    • Bearing fruit (John 15)
    • Exhibiting overflowing
  3. What is the disconnect between Heart Transformation and how we live life?
    • We are lukewarm and don't know it & therefore aren't experiencing the abundant life God promises (John 10:10b)
    • We have impure hearts and sometimes don't know it or deal with it (James - mirror)
    • We have wrong motives - every inclination of man's heart is only evil (Gen. 6:5)
    • We are holding back, we only surrender part of our life and heart
    • We deny the truth and don't take it literally, don't deal with issues we would rather just keep moving on to the next thing/lesson/point (mirror)
    • We really don't believe God has a better plan
    • Influenced by our culture more than we know / compare ourselves to man's standards vs. Gods
    • We assume that more "knowledge" will change us, if that were true the Pharisees would have been in great shape
    • We each have footholds by which the principalities and powers distract us from a right heart focus
    • We live a "transferred life" believing it's a "transformed life"
  4. Pilgrim pitfalls & traps - gates of opportunity for growth
    • To whose voice do I listen - stop the noise & listen
    • Doubt & fear - not believing the impossible
    • too little/lacking faith
    • not entrusting Him or His plan
    • Whose glory - it's really about me not about His Kingdom
    • Not seeking His refuge & protection
    • Pride - who is great
    • thinking: I can do it with some of Your help
    • Footholds - personal vulnerabilities
    • heart is unprotected
    • justify sin in my life - old habits and patterns
    • Without dependence on Him
    • Not praying, not worshipping Him
    • ineffective prayer
    • Not expecting radical change
    • not looking for or expecting soul surgery
    • should be responding counter-culturally vs. the same old way
    • Doing my will, not His
    • not desiring what the Spirit desires
    • not joining Him in what He is doing
    • Blindness to my sin, not teachable
    • Unwilling to do what He says now with urgency
    • Downplay or minimize His message
